Coimbatore, which is also called as Kovai in Tamil is popularly known for its automobile spare parts manufacturing, engineering firms, textile industries, health care centers, schools, colleges, and the soothing weather. As the city is located on the banks of the river Noyyal, it is also called as Koneyammanputhhur, which signifies to be the 'birth place of the Goddess' . Coimbatore is an excellent South Indian tourism spot, popularly known for its landscape spotted with divine shrines and temples.

Sightseeing in Coimbatore-

Kovai Kutralam Falls: is an exciting water fall situated at Siruvani. The water fall is about 37 kilometers away from Coimbatore city and the water fall is popularly known for its magnificence. The water fall is situated in the center part of the dense forest and due to this reason visitors are not permitted to see the falls after 5 pm. The chief source of drinking water in Coimbatore is supplied by Siruvani.

Monkey Falls: The Monkey falls is an excellent and ideal outdoor travelogue, which is situated some 65 kilometers away from Coimbatore city and it is some 27 kilometer away from Pollachi on Coimbatore-Pollachi-Valparai main road. The Monkey Falls is famous and a popular tourism spot.

Perur Siva Temple: The Perur Siva Temple is situated some 6 kilometers away in the west of Coimbatore. The temple was built by the Karikala Cholan and it is constructed on the banks of the river Noyyal. The Perur Siva Temple is purely dedicated to the lord Siva and the deity in the shrine is called as Patteeswaras and His Consort, Pachai Nayaki. The buildings in the outer edge were constructed by the sawyers of Madurai during 17th century. The inner place of worship is very old and the temple has prominent figures of the Indian soldiers in the entrance. The temple is also called as Mel Chidambaram.

Marudhamalai Temple: The Marudhamalai hill temple is located at a height of around 500 feet in the highland on the Western Ghats. The temple is 15 kms north-west of Coimbatore city, and the place has an excellent salubrious weather. The Marudhamalai temple has the deity of Lord Muruga. The major feature of this hill is that, it grows essential medicinal herbs, which is used in making ayurvedic medicines.

Vellingiri Hill Temple: The Vellingiri Hill temple is situated some 40 kilometers away from Coimbatore city, Tamil Nadu. The temple is purely dedicated to lord Siva and the overall altitude of the hill is 6000 feet. The Vellingiri hill temple is considered to be a famous worship place. Moreover the hill is familiar for its extravagant natural resources. People can find several different essential rare herbs grown on the hill, which could be used for medication.

How to reach -

By Air: Coimbatore Airport, known as Peelamedu Airport, is at a distance of 10 km from the city center.  Coimbatore is connected by air to airports in South India, especially to Chennai.

By Train: Coimbatore junction is a major railway station in Southern railway. It is well connected to all the rail heads in India.

By Road: State road transport corporations of Tamil Nadu and Kerala operate many bus services from Coimbatore connecting various cities in the state. Many Super deluxe buses connecting Coimbatore to Trivandrum, Cochin, Chennai, Kozhikode, Hyderabad and Bangalore are available.
